Summary of Template Interpretation Process

The following is a summary of the actions taken by GEDitCOM II when attempting to format customized editing windows:

  1. When any type of GEDCOM Record is opened or Pseudo Record is opened using the StructuresLink command, GEDitCOM II will look for a template called "(Record_Tag_Name) Record Editing" where (Record_Tag_Name) is INDI, FAM, etc., for the record being opened. If the template is found, the commands will be interpreted and a generalized table of cells will be created. If no template is found, GEDitCOM II will load and use the "_Unknown_ Record Editing" instead.
  2. When any template has a Show (Tag_Name) command, GEDitCOM II will load the data in the next available (Tag_Name) GEDCOM Structure, look for the template "(Tag_Name) Editing", and interpret the commands in that template. If no (Tag_Name) GEDCOM Structure is available, GEDitCOM II will interpret the "(Tag_Name) Editing" template commands using empty data. If no "(Tag_Name) Editing" template exists, GEDitCOM II will use the "_Unknown_ Editing" template instead.
  3. When a template has a ShowAll (Tag_Name) command, GEDitCOM II will execute a Show (Tag_Name) command for each (Tag_Name) GEDCOM Structure that is available. If there are no such data structures, GEDitCOM II will do nothing and skip to the next command.
  4. If any template ends before all genealogical data has been used, GEDitCOM II will execute a Show (Tag_Name) command for each remaining GEDCOM Structure (unless the template had a HideExcess command).
  5. If there is an error in any command, GEDitCOM II will display an error message and exit the formatting process.
