Basic Charts and Reports Extension

This extension has several charts and reports. They were all designed to print well and often leave space for entering new information. Such reports are useful when making a trip where your computer will not be available. When you choose this extension, you can pick from the following options:

Four generation chart (lifespans only)

This chart will display a four-generation pedigree chart for the currently selected individual. It shows only names and lifespans for the ancestors. If an ancestor in the last listed generation has known additional ancestors, their name will be followed by an arrow.

Plain text four generation chart (birth date and place)

This chart will display a four-generation pedigree chart for the currently selected individual. It shows names along with birth date and birth place (if known). Any unknown information leaves a space to allow printing and filling out the forms remotely. If an ancestor in the last listed generation has known additional ancestors, their name will be followed by a plus sign.

Paper Size

This report and some other basic reports use a fixed-width font to align items in to fit weill on printed pages. The report therefore asks if you are printing to "US Letter" or "A4" paper. It assumes you are using the defined "GEDitCOM II" settings for margins in the "Page Setup" window that uses 72 pixel margins on all sides. If any problems arise fitting to pages, you can adjust those margins as follows:

  1. While viewing the report select File→Page Setup… menu command.
  2. Choose "GEDitCOM II" from the settings menu.
  3. Change any margin as needed to better fit the report (by trial and error)
  4. Click "OK" and then print the report.

Alternatively, you can edit the report script in the GEDitCOM Editor and change the number of columns and rows it uses per page.

Six generation chart (names only)

This chart will display a six-generation pedigree chart for the currently selected individual. It shows names only (because that is all that can fit on a single page). Any unknown name will leave a blank line to allow printing and filling out the forms remotely. If an ancestor in the last listed generation has known additional ancestors, their name will be followed by a plus sign. The report uses a fixed-width font and is designed to print on a single page. It should work on both US letter and A4 paper, but for better centering on A4 paper, you may want to change the margins.

This report is only available in GEDitCOM II

Firat name report

This report will generate a table of first names with number and frequency for each name. The table will be for male, female or unknown sex individuals (which can be selected individuals or all individuals in the file). One use of these tables is to identify individuals that might have incorrect sex setting or to see if those with "unknown sex" can have their "sex" be guessed by their first names. Another use is to get ideas for names to choose for the next generation of children in your family group.

Plain text report summarizing two individuals per page

This report generates a brief, plain text report for all individuals (or all currently selected individuals, as chosen at the start). The report has name, parents names, birth and death information, marriage information, and all children. Any missing information leaves blank spaces making this a good report for printing and then filling in information remotely. Sample output for Queen Elizabeth is given below.

The report is designed to print two individuals per page. Since a report for all individuals in a file with thousands of individuals, will print half that number of pages, it is usually best to select individuals first and then get a report only for those selected individuals.

See above if any problems getting exactly two people on each page.
